    13th Dec 2006London Country - AN 106/AN 110 saga (23 images)
In 1972 London Country put a fleet of Metro-Cammell bodied two-door Leyland PDR1.1 Spl Atlanteans into service. They included AN 106 and AN 110 (MPJ 206/10L).
Ten years later the company decided to convert two of them for London sightseeing work. AN 106 and AN 110 were sent to Carlyle Works in Birmingham for the work to be done.
When they emerged from the shops, the 10-year-old deckers looked something special... though their front and rear wind shields lacked sartorial elegance.
Who would think that after a busy time in the capital, AN 106 would survive with the Big Bus Company into the Third Millennium.
The last time I saw it was at Northfleet, next to Gravesend AFC's ground, clearly at the end of its 33-year life - in July 2005.

The traditional Routemaster bus will clock up 50 years in service with London Transport and its successors later this year. But shortly afterwards its last operating examples will be sent to the Great Scrapyard outside Barnsley... or overseas.
In the meantime the last traditional rear-loading, red London buses are still running ...........
This collection shows a few still in service, and some examples running in Scotland with Clydeside, Magicbus and ....

Sure Start playbus PY52 KVW was originally built as T101 KLD. It never entered revenue service, and here is seen three years after being converted to a central-entance playbus, looking pretty sorry for itself.
